Kevin Durant: Warriors star will leave because of LeBron James and Steph Curry

Kevin Durant has always been considered as No 2 throughout his career

That’s the opinion of NBA analyst Colin Cowherd, who believes Durant wants to go to a situation where he is considered No 1.

Durant will not make a decision on his future until after the NBA Playoffs, with the Warriors favourites to go on to win another championship.

That would be three in as many years since Durant joined Golden State from Oklahoma City back in 2016.

While the Warriors were already seen as a superteam before Durant joined, he made them unbeatable.

Yet, despite his dominance over the past few years – which has seen him win two Finals MVPs – Durant reportedly still isn’t satisfied.

Some of put that down to the fact that Durant wants to go somewhere that he can call his own franchise.

The New York Knicks have been heavily linked, with one report suggesting they have already have a TV plan forming around Durant heading to Madison Square Garden.

Still, it would go against the norm if Durant opts to leave a team off the back of potentially winning three straight titles.

However, Cowherd believes Durant’s mindset is that he is tired of being considered second best.

“Kevin Durant has been arguably the best basketball player in the world for 10 years,” he said on The Herd.

“I’d say LeBron, but he’s a better offensive player I think than LeBron.

“For his entire life of basketball, Kevin Durant has finished second.

“He did not go number one in the draft, Kevin Durant went behind Greg Oden.

“Then he goes to Oklahoma City and Sam Presti puts his arms around Westbrook over Kevin Durant.

“Then he goes to Golden State where he’s clearly the best player, but he’ll never be as popular as Steph.

“For 10 years, despite his dominance, there’s LeBron. He’s number two.

“Even at Nike. His contract? Second best.”
